My work is a reflection of myself in the stepping stones of life, my curiosity and those things which since childhood have held my fascination. My interest in people, nature and in conservation, whether marine, botanical or wild life has been the thread which forms the creative mindset interpreted in my writing, sculpture, fine art and ceramics.
Siobhán O’Reagain is a fine artist, sculptor and writer who constantly pushes the frontiers of new mediums, exploring the textural adaptability of each one, it’s nuances and strengths and testing those boundaries as far as she can. This is evident in her floor to ceiling translucent porcelain wall sculptures which are backlit allowing the delicacy of veins to show through in leaves and petals.
Her love of nature and conservation is reflected in her work which focuses on botanics and endangered species such as the pangolins in her first solo exhibition Proteas and Pangolins at the Tamasa Art Gallery in Durban https://tamasagallery.co.za/ . Her consideration not just of the medium, but of the subject matter is key and represents an identifiable thread that weaves its way throughout her work – making it somehow instantly recognizable – whether ceramic, illustration or photography.
This unique ability, makes each work a momentary snapshot in the progression of her journey as a South African fine artist, producing works found in both local and international collections.
Siobhán has twice been a finalist in the Sasol New Signatures competition. She has written and illustrated two books commissioned by M-Net for their KTV children’s programme as well as illustrations for several magazines.
